Visible Resilience: Celebrating Womxn in Tech at UC Davis

This past Women’s History Month, a long-standing womxn-focused UC Davis advocacy group achieved a significant milestone in recognition for their commitment to supporting womxn in technology fields.

The UC Davis Womxn in Tech (WIT) group received an official campus designation and became a subgroup of the Status of Women at Davis Administrative Advisory Committee (SWADAAC). The group celebrated its new designation and partnership with the academic advocacy committee within the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion during a WIT event on March 21, 2024.

Creating Spaces

A 2021 Pew Research study found that while women are earning more than half of higher education degrees, they are still significantly underrepresented in the fields of engineering and computer science. Additionally, according to 2021 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, roughly 12% of all computing and mathematics occupations are held by women of color.

Call for Applications for the Administrative Advisory Committees

The following is a message from Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Mary Croughan:

I am reaching out to encourage you to become involved in issues affecting the UC Davis community by applying for membership on a UC Davis Administrative Advisory Committee for the 2024-25 year. These committees provide an opportunity for all constituencies — Academic Senate and Academic Federation members, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students — to advise campus leaders on priorities and recommendations.

These committees include:

Why I DEI: Marisa Davidson '24

She is also the social media and strategic communications project lead at the Division for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at UC Davis and an ambassador lead for the College of Letters and Science. We had a chance to sit down with Davidson to learn more about her time at UC Davis and her “Why I DEI.”

Resources for Ramadan

Sunday, March 10, 2024 marked the beginning of Ramadan for the Muslim community and continues through April 9, 2024. During this time of spiritual growth and reflection, Muslims worldwide will fast from food and water from dawn to sunset. In support of our patients, faculty, employees, students, and community members we would like to share resources for awareness, care, and guidance around accommodations to consider when hosting gatherings and/or meetings where food is provided during this time.

Champions for DEI

The Sacramento Business Journal has named two leaders from UC Davis as Champions for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Renetta Garrison Tull, vice chancellor of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Hendry Ton, associate vice chancellor for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, were among the six people and seven organizations the publication honored.
