Black Futures Month Preview
Month-long Celebration Includes Kick-off, Networking, Themed Meals
This February, join the campus community in celebrating Black Futures Month, UC Davis’ shared vision of the trajectory for Black life on campus and beyond.
Black Futures Month represents the campus community commitment to remembering, celebrating and learning from the proud history of Black Americans and the promising future of all scholars who continue to bring innovation and excellence to our society.
A wide range of events are planned for the month, organized by the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; the Cross Cultural Center; Intercollegiate Athletics; Student Housing and Dining Services; and more. A list of events is available on the Aggie Black Excellence website, including:
On Thursday (Feb. 6), the UC Davis’ National Pan-Hellenic Council will perform during halftime of the women’s basketball game. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
On Saturday (Feb. 8), check out the official Black Futures Month kick-off reception at the Manetti Shrem Museum from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The free event will include light refreshments and opportunities to learn about campus initiatives supporting the African Diaspora and student success.
Immediately following the reception, one of this generation’s most exciting emerging voices in jazz, Braxton Cook, will take the stage at the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall. Tickets are on sale now and include discounts for groups, employees and students.
On Feb. 11, UC Davis Athletics and the UC Davis African American Faculty and Staff Association will host a Black Faculty & Staff Student-Athlete Social at the Bruce Edwards Club Room at UC Davis Health Stadium from 6-8 p.m.
On Feb. 20, join the African and African American Alumni Association, or 5A, and Cal Aggie Alumni Association, or CAAA, for a special Black Futures Month basketball game and social.
