OSRD and Partners Engage, Inspire, and Celebrate Future Healthcare Leaders
This spring, the Office of Student and Resident Diversity (OSRD) and campus partners participated in a series of impactful events aimed at supporting aspiring healthcare professionals at every stage of their journey.
On May 2, the California Postbaccalaureate Consortium partnered with Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science to host the Pre-Health Advisors Summit: Supporting Diverse Student Success in Health Professions. The event brought together consortium administrators, coordinators, and alumni to equip advisors and educators with the tools to better guide students from underserved backgrounds into health careers.
Just days later, OSRD joined over 1,000 attendees at the César Chávez Youth Leadership Conference on May 10. With students ranging from elementary to college level, the team engaged in conversations about dreams, goals, and pathways into medicine. Attendees explored programs such as the HEALTH Equity Academy, Avenue M, and MSPEP—initiatives designed to nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Finally, the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), in collaboration with OSRD, hosted Hacia Adelante, a heartfelt celebration honoring graduating fourth-year medical students. Surrounded by supportive peers and meaningful details—including festive decorations and white coat–themed cookies—students were recognized for their accomplishments and the journeys ahead.
Together, these events reflect a continued commitment to outreach, guidance, and celebration for those pursuing a future in medicine.
