One of our UC Davis themes is “Outgrow the Expected.” This report serves as a reminder that UC Davis is indeed outgrowing even our own expectations as we do ever more to be compassionate, inclusive, thoughtful, insightful, aware, and action-oriented in our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, or DEI, practice. DEI is—and must be—a collective effort. Seen on the UC Davis Human Resources website and on the wall as art at the Manetti-Shrem museum, the phrase, “You Belong Here” became the DEI office’s mantra for reaching out to our campus community. We are proud that UC Davis is being recognized nationally as a leader in diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Download report on eScholarship.

When I reflect back, not only on the year covered in this report, but the past eighteen months, I consider how much effort it has taken to make sure that tens of thousands in our campus and community are safe and healthy (physically and mentally), yet also are able to meet their basic needs, be productive, and serve others. It has been a daunting task, but we are UC Davis, and UC Davis has taken this challenge head on. Download report on eScholarship.

The Task Force was charged with examining and making recommendations to continue to improve the success and well-being of all our students, including our Latinx and Chicanx students, and to identify the resources and reforms necessary to achieve these goals. "Taking Action," Impact Report, 2019-2020

Cover of 2019-2020 Impact Report

Within a few months of 2020, we’ve experienced challenges that have grasped the world, the nation, and UC Davis, e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic, greater attention to loss of Black lives to violence, and greater recognition of the incidence and impacts of ongoing racism. These challenges continue, and our community has been traumatized—seeking answers and ways to cope. However, despite these difficulties, there is strength, resilience, and a continued—indeed a collaborative—commitment to equity and justice. Ensuring that justice is served is not limited to the work of a few, it is up to all of us to join in and work together. Download report on eScholarship.

As we strive to meet the growth goals of the UC Davis 2020 Initiative, the significant increase in enrollment corresponds with an opportunity to develop a more diverse community of scholars . A clear plan will move UC Davis toward its goal of inclusion excellence, meaning the condition in which all members of a community are encouraged and supported to work, study, and learn in a way that allows each of us to reach our full potential. Download report on eScholarship.
