Enrollment of low-income, undocumented students declined by half at University of California and California State University campuses from 2016 through the 2022-23 academic year, according to a new study by the University of California Civil Rights Project at UCLA and UC Davis School of Law.
Marisa Davidson is the social media and strategic communications project lead at the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and an ambassador lead at the College of Letters and Science. She graduated from UC Davis in the winter of 2024 with dual majors in international relations and communication.
We had a chance to sit down with Davidson to learn more about her time at UC Davis and her “Why I DEI.”
Hispanic Outlook Magazine last month named UC Davis as one of the “Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics,” and the people leading UC Davis’ effort to become a Hispanic-Serving Institution, or HSI, say that’s just a peek at things to come.
“It’s been our past, our present and our future,” said Lina Mendez, director of HSI Initiatives. “I see this as something that can benefit the entire campus, and not just Hispanic students.”
On Friday, June 3rd, the Office of Student and Resident Diversity (OSRD) celebrated with a Closing Ceremony to honor the 2022 cohorts in the Medical School Preparatory Enhancement Program (MSPEP) and the Post-Baccalaureate Program. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Brandee L. Waite, PM&R Sports Medicine Section Chief and Fellowship Director and Co-Director of UCD Health Sports Medicine.
In recent weeks and days, we have seen increased discussions and gatherings related to the protests in Hong Kong on our campus. As stated in our campus Principles of Community, “we affirm the right of freedom of expression within our community.” We fully support the open exchange of ideas and expression of perspectives.
