About Our Division

Engage. Equip. Empower. Elevate

We are a division at UC Davis that leads and strengthens the efforts of the UC Davis community to realize our collective vision of excellence in which people from all backgrounds thrive. Our UC Davis community includes faculty, staff, and students, at all UC Davis locations, including laboratories, clinical services, and centers across California.

We ENGAGE all to participate in generating ideas and taking action. We EQUIP stakeholders to embed the structure, values and resources for diversity, equity and incluison in their work, and we serve as a hub for diversity, equity and inclusion innovation. We EMPOWER people to launch diversity, equity and inclusion practice for their work, learning, growth, and community spaces. We ELEVATE the contributions of our diversity, equity and inclusion champions through recognition, awards and dissemination.

We invite our broader community (patients and their families, prospective students and their families, and our community and institutional partners) to partner with us to realize this vision

Academic Excellence

The Office of Academic Diversity (OAD) strengthens the university's ability to train, recruit, and retain the most innovative scientific, research, and creative workforce in the world. It develops programming to advance the recruitment, retention, and promotion of faculty members whose research, teaching, and service advances a variety of perspectives in all fields of studies. It similarly supports programs aimed at graduate student success, especially for those students who may be the first in their family to pursue a graduate degree.

Health for All

The Office for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (HEDI) at UC Davis Health fosters a welcoming and respectful culture across the entire health system. The office works to improve policies, structures, and daily practices to support a positive workplace and patient experience. Through leadership development initiatives and cultural competency training, HEDI equips faculty, staff, and students with tools to engage effectively and better serve their patients, workforce, and learners. The Office of Student and Resident Diversity (OSRD), reporting jointly to HEDI and the School of Medicine, develops California’s healthcare workforce by supporting aspiring and current medical professionals from K-12 through residency, with a focus on preparing physicians to serve communities in remote, rural areas and urban healthcare deserts where access to care is limited.

History Matters*

We cannot advance without knowing where we came from, including acknowledging the land on which we do our work. We also celebrate the pioneers and pioneering work that serves as the foundation for our ongoing efforts.

*History Matters connects to the 5 Pedagogical Stances (5PS) Framework for history, race, justice, language, and futures (In Restorative Justice in Education, Winn, M.T., and Winn, L. T., 2021).
