Dr. Vickie Gomez, Director of Campus and Community Engagement to Retire

After 21 years of service to UC Davis, Dr. Vickie Gomez, Director of Campus and Community Engagement in the Office of Campus and Community Relations (OCCR) will be retiring on July 1, 2023.

Vickie has spent the last 15 years with OCCR, initially as a program coordinator prior to her appointment as Director of Campus and Community Engagement. Prior to joining OCCR, she served the University as an academic counselor with the College of L&S. Before joining UC Davis, Vickie worked at San Jose State University where she supervised the counseling unit of a federal TRIO program for 14 years, capping a 35 year career in higher education. Additionally, Vickie taught Ethnic Studies and Psychology at Evergreen Community College, and she earned her doctorate in educational leadership from UC Davis’s CANDEL (School of Education) in 2015.

In her role as Director of Campus and Regional Community Engagement, Vickie supported our volunteer groups such as the various Employee Resource Groups and Administrative Advisory Committees. She has also led our large scale events like the Principles of Community Week, Soaring to New Heights, and Chancellor’s Achievement Awards. Moreover, as a previous member of OCCR’s “ Train the Trainers” Diversity Trainers Institute, Vickie taught several diversity education courses through Learning and Development (formerly Staff Development and Professional Services). Her knowledge of and connections across the University and surrounding communities have been instrumental in the development of our partnership and collaborative efforts, within and beyond UC Davis. She has been steadfast in building the infrastructure that will move our campus and community engagement programs to its next phase; has led in important task forces that have campus-wide impact, particularly, the Lived Name Gender Marker Task Force; and developing our Community of Practice program that will support the DEI Committees in the implementation of the Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Vision.
